Regina is the Capital of the Province of Saskatchewan, home of the 'Mounties',the largest city closest to the geographic centre of North America and the adventure tourism gateway to the southern part of the province. Regina has Canada's only training centre for the R.C.M.P. chosen as a temporary site for its headquarters while Regina was the capital of the North West Territories (prior to 1905) and chose to stay. The academy trained approximately 1000 cadets during the 2004 calendar year. The R.C.M.P. Centennial Museum is one of the top international tourist attractions.

The World-renowned architect Arthur Erikson has recently been chosen to design a $30 million RCMP Heritage Centre on a 14-acre site at the 120-year-old academy. T his will be the only national museum east of Ottawa.

The Wascana Centre is one of the largest urban parks in North America, Wascana Centre covers 2300 acres, 300 of which are water. The entire park is man-made, in fact, every blade of grass, every tree and hill, as well as the lake and its small islands are all man-made. During the winter months of 2004, an $18 million urban revitalization project took place to increase the depth of the lake for the benefit of the people who visit and enjoy Wascana Centre. Revitalization benefits included a promenade deck, new island, pedestrian pathways, pedestrian bridge, waterfall, fountain and new aeration system to support fish habitat.

Events

Event mania - there are many widely recognized annual events that take place year round including: Mosaic - Festival of Cultures, Western Canada Farm Progress Show, Royal Red Arabian Horse Show, and Canadian Western Agribition. Regina's Exhibition Park, hosts many events including the Regina International Fringe Theatre Festival and the annual Buffalo Days Exhibition.

Ready...Set...GO! - the Regina Dragon Boat Festival has the highest number of teams, per capita, of any dragon boat festival in the world. It is also the only one to be presented with a permanent trophy from the Hong Kong Government.

The one and only - Regina is home to the First Nations University of Canada - the only educational facility of its kind in Canada. Designed by world-renowned aboriginal architect Douglas J. Cardinal, this facility is one of the most unique in Western Canada.

If dining is your pleasure then Regina is food for the soul - with over 300 dining establishments, no matter what your preference you will be sure to have your appetite satisfied. Rumours abound that Regina has more restaurants per capita than any other major city in Canada.

The Saskatchewan Science Centre and Imax Theatre is recognized as the number one family attraction in Saskatchewan. Did you say dinosaur? - The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is home to "Scotty", one of only twelve known T-Rex dinosaurs in the world.

Sports

"Riderville" - Football phenoms - the 2007 Canadian Football Leage, Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders are one of the most popular professional sports teams in North America and their football fans are widely recognized as the "greatest football fans on earth". "Rider Pride" causes many fans to dress in green (the team colour) and use copious amounts of green body and face paint at games in their home of Taylor Field, as well many other stadiums throughout the CFL!

Fans can now also "own a piece of the pride" by purchasing shares in the Riders, the only CFL team to offer this to their followers.

Hockey Hotbed - the Regina Pats Hockey Club is the world's longest running junior hockey team.

Regina is situated on the Trans Canada #1 Highway, approximately half way between Calgary, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba. The same highway goes west from Regina to the city of Moose Jaw, with its spa and secret underground tunells from the days of Al Capone. Regina is also on the north/south Louis Riel Highway, named for Saskatchewan Metis hero Louis Riel, who headed the 1885 Northwest Rebellion and was subsequently hanged for treason.

The Albert Street Bridge - This 370-metre bridge spans 37 metres of water and is listed in "Ripley's Believe It or Not" as one of the longest bridges over the shortest expanse of water.
Green with trees - virtually every one of over 350,000 trees in Regina have been hand-planted.
Regina Symphony Orchestra - the "RSO" is Canada's oldest continuously operating symphony.
